Controls To Make It Work

I noticed that the F9 does indeed stop the scroll, as does Space. However Ctrl+P does not start it up again, nor does pressing Space again as would be expected.

I can use the Up Arrow to start at a slower speed and press it again to speed up more.

There must be a simple play and pause toggle somewhere, but I cannot seem to find it. Please advise.

Thanks.

in v1.2, Ctrl-P is Pause. As with any pause it will only resume if you have accumulated speed. In that same version Space is Stop, as in the speed goes to 0. It was done this way thinking of dedicated prompter operators who want to ease-in video hosts back into speed. Too many people have complained about this, so they have been switched the other way round for the next release, QPrompt v2.0.

You can change the values by going into Main Menu > Control Settings > Keyboard Inputs.

There is a graphical way to control the velocity, using the buttons next to Return To Edit Mode. However, there are no graphical pause or stop buttons. I have plans to add those in the future, in the form of dedicated playback controls, but given the backlog and how that’s low priority, it will take a while before I get to it.

I am not sure of a few things.

First, what is “accumulated speed”?

Second, what is the difference between dedicated prompter operators and other types? If you see more than one type of user, then you would need to provide a switch to allow the user to choose the format which is desired. That way that keys will work for that group of users as is best for them.

Third, I could not figure out how to change any shortcut keys sequences.

Thanks.

At any point while prompting, you can adjust the teleprompter’s velocity. I use the term velocity for correctness, as it indicates both speed and direction. Speed is how much velocity you may have accumulated in any direction.

After you pause QPrompt you are able un-pause to resume the animation at full speed. If instead of pausing you stop, velocity will be reset to 0, meaning you’ll have to bring the prompter’s speed up again.

There aren’t that many differences. The most notable difference is users prompting for themselves will prefer spacebar to be pause and while dedicated operators will prefer it to be stop, but that isn’t always the case.

I had plans to provide such a switch for QPrompt v2.0, but it had to be left undone due to time constraints. I hope that it can be included in v2.1.

I would suggest that the way to look at it would be to say that any speed that the scroll is running is the current or set speed. Any changes to that just sets a new current speed.

From your explanation, the use of stopping it sets it back to 0. Is that correct?

*You can only select keys that haven’t been assigned. To un-bind a key you must assign a different key. A more adequate Clear button has already been added for QPrompt v2.0.

But they are all “assigned”.

Ah yes, that was requested a while back by another user. It’s already been added to v2.0.

Yes, that is correct.

Right. I should’ve expressed this better. You can’t leave a key unassigned in versions prior to v2.0. You can only assign the key to something else so that the binding that you liberate can be assigned to a different key.
