i think something like that will be implemented into the mobile app at some point.

It is possible. For a remote to work it needs to have its input processed as a keyboard input. Most of the laser pointers used with presentation software accomplish this, setting Page Up and Page Down as their keys. You can set QPrompt to use those keys for velocity decrease and velocity increase, and it’ll work with those remotes.
I personally like using QPrompt with KDE Connect, which has a presentation remote control feature in it. Again, you can use any remote that is or you can have it be interpreted as keyboard inputs.
