Can you program settings for Speed (we have now) but also possible controllers for Step Speed and step acceleration it would be very handy for autocue in Live situations because from 1 to 2 etc its to great different
I’m not confident that it is a good idea to do that.
Speed and acceleration are settings used to adjust the mathematical curvature of velocity increases. The idea is that you only need to change Velocity during a prompting session. If the delta between any two velocity numbers is too much or too little, then you adjust speed and acceleration values to have velocity match your needs and expectations.
Greater speed values make all velocity steps result in a greater change. Greater acceleration values make the higher velocity values result in greater change compared to lower velocity steps. This helps compensate for the fact that the faster something moves, the harder it is for us to perceive it’s changes in speed.
I would only let speed and acceleration be controlled via a shortcut as long as there’s no default key to trigger these actions. Meaning users would have to deliberately program the shortcuts themselves in order to use them. The idea behind that is to strike a balance between allowing people to quickly make adjustments in the middle of a session while preventing them from accidentally using slider and acceleration incorrectly.
Hi Cuperino,
thanks for quick reply/ In Autocuebusiness you need small scroll steps thats our experience . Programs as Teleprompter Plus, Autocue Pioneer, https://autoscript.tv/ and Power Prompter - The Mac Teleprompter have one slider that controls in small steps up/down the scrolling time. Also in Backingtracks programs you can setup a timeline as example a song time is 3.52 so the text scroll you can set to this time…
Thanks for all the good work i really love Qprompt but for our business is the scrolling speed in small steps important
Hi @24se7en,
Sorry for the late reply, I went offline for the weekend. Thanks for pointing out the importance of small scroll steps. Here are my takeaways from your comments:
-
Steps should be smaller by default.
I can’t change the default without shifting the ground beneath most existing users. However, you can set the (step) speed slider to a lower value and get exactly what you’re describing. I find a step speed value like 0.55 works well for me.
If I make something like 0.55 the new default, OCD users will be pissed because the default isn’t a pretty value like 1. If I make it so a velocity step of 1 behaves like a step of 0.55, all users who are already accustomed to how text flows in QPrompt will have their muscle memory become instantly obsolete. There’s no way to get a better default without making a sacrifice.

There has to be a way to control step speed and step acceleration remotely via something like the Stream Deck, so operators can quickly adjust these while prompting.
As I mentioned in my previous response. I’m fine with adding what you’re asking as long as there is no default key pre-programmed for this. You’d have to set a key for your use from the Key Inputs section. This is to prevent people from misusing the step speed slider as a prompt velocity slider.
Hi Cuperino
thanks for your reply… i understand that you cant modify the speed in smaller steps
I would be great when you can program a key for step speed so i can setup a key and use it in Streamdeck+
